Faith and Sacraments

Welcoming new people, sharing faith and celebrating the stepping stones in the Christian life are the heart of what we are about at Our Lady of Lourdes parish. We cannot name the date for any public celebrations at present, due to the government’s Covid-19 restrictions, but:

Infant Baptism: contact Fr. Rob and he will be delighted to talk with you about how we can prepare your family to bring your child into the Church

First Communion: we are most of the way through our current programme of preparation for children in Year 3 or above and we hope to celebrate with this year’s First Communicants before the end of September. Preparation for children wishing to make their first communion in 2021 will start early in the New Year.

Confirmation: celebration of the sacrament with Bishop Richard after Easter was prevented by Covid-19 lock-down. We hope to reschedule this for the early autumn and to invite those (in Year 10 or above) wishing to think about being confirmed in 2021 to form a group later in the autumn.

Marriage Preparation: congratulations if you’ve just got engaged! Please contact Fr. Rob as soon as possible to discuss how we can help you to build good foundations for a lifetime’s commitment to each other and support you in the practicalities of arranging a wedding. Our Bishop asks you to give a year’s notice of your intention to marry.   If you wish to be married or prepare for marriage at Our Lady of Lourdes, please contact Fr. Rob.

Adults Exploring Faith: see information about Alpha courses on this website or contact Fr. Rob to have a chat at any time.
